Sure, but for many years (circa 1950 to 2019) Pentagon's approach to UFOs was "nothing to see here" and secrecy but now is much more willing to acknowledge unexplained events.

I think they realized that sounding defensive about stuff they can’t explain encourages people to believe in a cover-up. It’s not their role or their expertise to identify every random thing in the sky and they gain nothing from trying to dissuade people from believing in aliens.

I like to think that the skeptics‘ point about that unidentified flying objects are closer to the norm than the exception gained currency. And the AF stopped feeling like they should be expected to know what everything in the sky is based on vague eyewitness accounts.

What needs to be understood is that a lot of conspiracy culture and even anti-scientific thinking was a direct byproduct of Cold War secrecy.
