1. Speaking of authoritarianism, yesterday's NY Times report of Trumpists (led by Betsy DeVos' brother Erik Prince) organizing a spy network to entrap FBI agents and national security advisor H.R. McMaster should be seen as part of the same governing pattern as Jan. 6 riot

it's perfectly healthy that there's a cottage industry of journalists who get paid by subscribers to deny democratic backsliding

I believe the NYT report mentioned that Barbara Ledeen (who was then a staffer for the Senate Judiciary Committee and former chair Sen. Grassley) had access to McMasters' calendar, and was involved in this.

"Clownish" is a misnomer. Should be "buffoonery". Clowning is a deliberate, mostly positive, behaviour, often politically effective. Buffoonery is the result of stupidity and lack of self-awareness, leading to incompetence and failure, but often harming innocent bystanders.

I mean honestly most historical authoritarianism is a clown show a lot of the time. Autocrats are often really incompetent in many or most respects they just have power (which is dangerous and effective even if someone is a moron).

This crowd is also how Kash Patel was running DOD by the end. And they’d already started with making the top level of the civil service subject to direct hiring and firing by the WH with the invention of Schedule F so Trump would have loyalists once he overturned the election
