2. Stepping back, it's crucial to see how unusual it is that a defeated president continue to be a dominant figure in party who sets agenda & can punish foes: was that true of (in recent memory) Ford, Carter or Bush Sr.

the social psychology of pure bullying has I think been underanalyzed in Trump phenom, also why "turning things around on him, like YOU're the snowflake!" stuff was never going to work. We're likely stuck w/him til he dies or bigger better bully comes along.

LBJ definitely did dominance politics but, as you say, had the grace to leave when finished presidency.
