It still seems like way too many Democrats believe they can just hold an authoritarian party at bay through legitimate means (winning elections) whereas an authoritarian party inherently rejects democracy. We’ve already seen evidence of this.

I seriously can't imagine not thinking it's not a huge deal. The only thing that I can envision that would change my mind is if the GOP collapses completely in the next year.

Same; at a certain point even if you don’t think it’s a big deal it’s still an eventual problem that needs squashed. That ‘squashing’ I think will cause at least some violence. That’s enough reason for significant concern!

Admitting that things could in fact get much worse means admitting that liberal capitalist democracy is not the worst things could get, and there’s a varied group of people invested in not admitting that.
