In this particular case, the person most able to fix the situation is Mitt Romney, who could change his affiliation to "I" caucus with Democrats, vote to eliminate the filibuster, and save the world. Failure to do that means all that embarrassment is worth jack squat.

I know there are individual GOPers who are horrified at what's happening, but I don't see how the institution of the GOP can ever pull back from this. This is the hill the party will enthusiastically die on, and it will try to take as many of the rest of us with it as possible.
