Right, the claim Gates befriended Epstein because Epstein had access to rich people who could help Gates with his philanthropy is very strange. https://twitter.com/SilvermanJacob/status/1390525268956258306 …

Jeet you don't dare question the virtue of those that have earned their status. Now you made a reactionary sad.

Epstein was tied into academic networks that I assume Gates wasn't at the start.
-
Microsoft is one of the biggest tech companies in the world! There's no way that Gates wouldn't have had much more access to any academic network he wanted just by picking up the phone than Epstein did. It just makes no sense.

A lot of rich people go to people that other rich people trust for financial advice. Bernie Madoff is a great example of this.
-
Madoff had people come to him because he offered great returns (via his ponzi scheme). That's not what Epstein offered.

This is not a single claim. Epstein was the one claiming advisor status, which a MS spox denied. That’s a self-serving lie on his part. Seems reasonable to meet someone who may be able to expand donor base. No indication in piece this was driven by Gates himself.
-
The NY Times reporting this is at least partially based on is much more focused, whereas this daily beast piece just throws a bunch of disparate facts and claims out there without establishing a coherent timelime or narrative, and makes it easy to conflate things like this

No? Being rich doesn’t automatically make networking connections appear out of thin air. Do you think when you become rich you just magically have the numbers of other powerful/rich people/institutions appear in your phone book?
