It's always cute when the "cancel culture crowd" is accused of ignoring a story no one has heard of. Have any of Azarova's supporters tried to publicize it? (also, I see a leading academic org. in Canada is sanctioning the school over this.)https://twitter.com/HeerJeet/status/1388890472089718785 …

Yeah, this is the point. God knows I don't expect Cathy in particular to read every one of my tweets -- in fact, I actively discourage it. But this has been a general silence, not just her. The lesson here is painfully obvious.

I mean cancel culture generally refers to a culture of people backed up by a media ecosystem who character assassinate someone into becoming a pariah, haven't heard about this story until now but is that what is happening? Or is it just a decision from a singular powerful donor?

Also sounds, from what I'm seeing now, like it's a more complicated situation than "she got un-hired for pro-Palestinian views." But I would like to see more on the story!

It's always more complicated when it involves speech you don't like!

lol Jeet using “cancel culture grifters” and “usual suspects” – imagine my surprise. Leon Wieseltier was worth five of you, Heer, and that’s on your best day.

Where was Jeet when Oberlin brats protested cultural appropriation by Kung Pao chicken? Or when the Oberlin administration tried to destroy a small business (over bogus charges of racism) that had served the town for decades?

The usual suspects and their friends like to talk about “bad faith” while calling people (often responsible for dogged reporting) “usual suspects.”
