As I keep saying, there are two separate issues in the Bailey matter: the accusations against Bailey & the question of who (in publishing, in journalism) knew about these accusations and when?

That is very interesting/odd. But it seems part and parcel with making it authorized, no? Get access to my papers and I get a piece of the action, or rather my estate does.
-
Is it common among even authorized biographies? Like I said, I've never seen anything like this before and am curious what it means.

Might the estate copyright be for quotations from his writing?
-
More likely copyright on images in the book

could that mean he was paid by the estate, and gave up part of the copyright as a result?
-
I suspect it’s just a weird marker for “asked and got permission to quote”?

I’ve only seen it in authorized pop-star biographies.

I tend to do more software than literary stuff, but the most common scenario I've seen where copyright ends up being jointly held is where each party is said "no, I want to own the copyright" and then they're like "okay, fine, we'll author it jointly"

But the real details of ownership, money flow, that sort of thing is all gonna be in some other contract that's not public.
