This is a very entertaining and illuminating guide to Roth, all the more valuable because Brodesser-Akner is a very a writer in the Rothian vein. But it says something about his vast oeuvre that my own list of suggested readings would be very different!https://twitter.com/taffyakner/status/1384234070758936578 …

Shylock is great if you read it before the counter life/the zuckerman bound books, and feels like it drags a lot if you read it after those books

If all of his that I read were the first, short story of Goodbye, Columbus and the (probably off putting titled) The Great American Novel, I would be good with my familiarity with those two wildly different works. The GAN is funny and is a good, underrated baseball book.

I am a great fan of "Patrimony," one of his rarely discussed books. I found it very moving and humane.
