Would it be fair to characterize movement conservatives (and the far right) as being generally wary of the Nixon administration until Watergate, at which point they became unequivocal Nixon supporters to (in anachronistic terms) "own the libs"?

Oh yeah, if I remember correctly, National Review did an editorial in 1972 "suspending" support of Nixon & backing primary opponent (Ashburn?). Judis' biography has a fair bit about NR reluctance around Nixon.
