I've often written about anti-Trump conservatives. But my argument (vindicated I think out by events) is that they have no effective sway inside GOP and so are besides the point for changing GOP (which is what Mounk is proposing).

This is generically true, but I think it’s worth considering how much is one vs the other. To the extent that US has an environment inhospitable to conservatives (1) and a hugely unreasonable GOP party (2), it’s obvious to most observers that 2 led to 1 more than vice Versa

This supposed dichotomy is nonsense. While the old joke is reality has a liberal bias, the truth is modern conservatives reject realities which contradict their ideology, not the other way around. Anti-intellectuals are never going to be comfortable with intellectualism.
