I would say "liberals" rather than left would be more accurate here.https://twitter.com/drvolts/status/1379153379583094786 …

That you feel the need to make that distinction is not a good thing.

The desperate need of the left to not merely establish its identity and ideals but to reject and despise the center-left is not a good thing.

Who is despising the liberals in this tweet? It's a factual acknowledgement that liberals (not the left) have a hegemony in those institutions. That's true, no?

It's an ongoing theme. And in this instance, rather than welcome movement towards the left, that overlaps with and includes some of the left, you recommended the left should roll its eyes and say some version of "oh, *those* guys". Seems counterproductive.

I don't understand your dislike of conceptual clarity.

You’re not asking for clarity. You’re asking him, in his point about left vs. right culture wars, to further define and exclude a subset of the left, who, nonetheless, support the center-left on these issues.

Where we disagree, I suspect, is in the idea that the left and liberals have the same positions in the culture wars. There is overlap, of course, but not the same. Which is why conceptual clarity is good to have.
