1. Has anyone written on trend of fantasy movies paying tribute to the gritty films of the 1970s? Joke was a riff on Taxi Driver & Network, Kong: Skull Island & War for the Planet of the Apes both paid homage to Apocalypse Now. The next Batman movie nods the head to Chinatown.

Chinatown paying homage to Maltese Falcon is entire normal given that they share the same genre (or at least lineage there of). A neo film noir referencing a classic film noir is normal. Joker and the 70s flick is another story.
