Didn't it begin as a secular state ? If you mean forcing a baker to make ceremonial art for a gay marriage or a a gender transistion party is what constitutes "increasingly secular", is this something to commend ?
Efforts by religious groups to become more politically powerful have resulted in people abandoning congregations.
Yeah, the decrease really started in the bush administration, when the mask started to slip. Politicized Christianity is revealed to be a hate movement fewer and fewer people wish to be involved with
Good riddance
The religious right actually has deceptively little power on the right, especially the courts, who know they can get far more from their religious foot soldiers by not giving them what they want.
Don’t some argue that the rise of Qanon is connected to this? People are getting their sociological needs met elsewhere?
But the Qanon people tend to be *highly* religious, and treat Trump as a messianic figure, which is really scary! But I don’t know if these people are members of organized churches either.
Oh boy. You ain't kidding.https://www.trumplandiareport.com/tag/we-are-so-fucked/ …
Trump's base is increasingly secular as well, but the religious right have smartly turned Trump into a religious figure and made politics itself religion for those people. They are fighting their own holy war against "wokeism."
Doing so by drawing an analogy between Trump and Cyrus the Great, founder of the Persian Empire, as he was seen in the Old Testament is a helluva trick. Would love to know what Iranians think of that.
