I'm trying to stay out of latest TNR fracas. Honestly I am. I mean I was given a wonderful once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shape the magazine and have said my share about what it should be. It's time to let others have their say. But maybe I can clear up some misconceptions?

@lionel_trolling's thread but I want to underline this particular tweet. Actually existing TNR publishes a wide spectrum of opinion ranging from socialist to centrist liberals to neo-Trumpian rightists (like Cauldwell).https://twitter.com/lionel_trolling/status/1376263351446220804 …Show this threadThanks. At this point the most benign reading of "woke" is 'any/everything I don't agree with'.
-
Just as 'political correctness' is losing steam, 'cancel culture' and anti-wokeness show up to inject new energy into the increasingly limp reactionary complaint that the lower classes have started to be very rude towards their betters and can't they be made to stop?

It's amazing how easy it is for folks to go from complaining that folks apply a "woke framework" to every issue or comment to applying one's own "anti-woke" framework to every issue or comment! Obsession abounds!
