I enjoy being alive but part of me wants to visit the Elysium Fields so I can ask Jefferson and Paine what they think about right-wing historians who say Revolution was led by pious monarchists who wanted to create a Christian polity.

I think they were called Tories and many moved to Canada after the Revolution. Very strange the rabbit holes these guys plunge into.

So your argument is that right-wingers really love racism and the pro-monarchy stuff is just a byproduct of that. Could be but I'd don't want to presume.

How does someone who believes “a belief in mankind’s ‘natural and inalienable’ rights” was the invention of English kings” get hired as a history professor?

This blog post seems pretty dubious actually and seems more concerned with advancing an agenda than actually dealing with historical complexities. https://networks.h-net.org/node/16794/reviews/148069/rosenblum-nelson-royalist-revolution-monarchy-and-american-founding …

The link above seems to be a much more honest and thoughtful appraisal of the guys work. Also this type of innuendo is pretty scummy. "Nelson’s book furnishes this deeply troubling conservative strain a dubious intellectual foundation to cast aside remaining inhibitions."
