Heroin used to be an over-the-counter drug, for coughs and many other things, so I'm going to guess Heroin.

Bayer held the trademark for Heroin, I learned this week. Aspirin, too, as is more widely known. The marks were casualties of WWI.

I learned from that recent Jimmy Carter documentary that he and Hunter S. Thompson were friends, and Hunter stayed over at the White House on occasion. All Jimmy conceded was he’d smoked up the Carter kids, but it’s a safe bet that he raised the “hardest substance” bar a fair bit

I remember a old SNL skit of Dan Aykroyd as Carter doing a radio call-in. One of the callers was having a bad trip and Carter (with a suggestion to listen to the Allman brothers) talking the guy down. The gag was the square against type but now I wonder.
