Because I am a linguistic functionalist, I hold that "critical race theory" is anything sort of theoretical that talks about race or racism and is just generally critical of things and makes people feel bad.

The basic insight is that formally race-neutral laws and social structures may nevertheless have racist effects (example: Ferguson, Mo., where the practice of raising city revenues with traffic fines and court fees, while formally race-neutral, made black residents miserable)
