Pekar was an early detractor of Woody Allen. It was a "contrarian" take on a popular figure at the time. (& since then Allen has done even better work.) To say in 2021 that "Oh yeah, Allen has always just done a dumb schtick & just fooled the critics & audiences ..." No.
