If Rubio does really endorse the unionization drive (reported op-ed isn't out yet) then that will be the first sign that the new right populism actually has a populist policy component & isn't just culture wars whining.https://twitter.com/DouthatNYT/status/1370369746210807808 …

I've assumed that backing unions would be a hard line (so to speak) for even would-be populist Republicans to cross, so this is significant from Rubio: https://www.axios.com/newsletters/axios-am-74613f04-4ec9-4d5a-813f-a4530fa5bc8b.html?chunk=8&utm_term=twsocialshare#story8 …

So far, right-wing hatred of big tech has only been on the rhetorical level. But if it leads some of them to support pro-unionization & anti-monopoly measures, then bipartisanship is worth pursuing.

What policy component? An op-ed isn't a bill. It's just posturing to make him look good to naïve centrist journalists.

Very curious whether it plays out in any legislative decisions. This move - if it's borne out by the oped - seems largely opportunistic and driven by Biden. Opportunistic in the sense of one hopeful casting about for traction. But I think it's still a very big deal inasmuch ...

I'm not so sure of that. Taking the side of workers against Amazon has a culture war verve for conservatives (and increasing Amazon's labor costs is good for more GOP-aligned retailers). But Marco condemned Biden for saving union pensions just last nighthttps://twitter.com/marcorubio/status/1370157143593205762 …

We could have had a $1400 checks & increased the child tax credit without sending stimulus checks to prisoners & illegal immigrants, spend $86 billion on an unrelated pension bailout & use your tax dollars to fund Planned Parenthood & abortions

Unfortunately, that battle seems all too common nationwide right now. Might explain why it's not registering with the country. Education unions are the scapegoats for everything.
