So I finally had time to go through all the Seuss books at issue and I feel like the whole convo would *really* benefit from everyone actually engaging with the texts at issue. Here's a link https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1HCjZ2UF3F8Otpi8e6H-vtJVVtvqP3qk0 …

I feel like the target audience- five year olds- may not be able to absorb the advisory and apply it critically.
-
Parents are the ones who buy books and take them out of libraries for 5 year olds. They can absorb the advisory.

As if that wouldn’t have the same effect. Remember that a week and a half ago it was the Muppets. What will it be next week?

This. The outrage machine only makes money when you feed it. An innocuous, unobtrusive warning was "WOKE CANCEL CULTURE". So is a business decision by a privately owned business. Next week they'll find something else to stuff into a mailer and paste into an email.

The real issue is that it's really nobody else's business but the people who own the IP. If anyone else doesn't like it, that's just too bad because they don't own it. This shouldn't even be an issue

I’m not sure that’s even a problem, unless we have decided that Seuss Enterprises is simply obligated to keep all his world perpetually in print as a matter as a matter of public trust.
-
No. Only racist images apparently.

They are books designed to help children learn how to read. There is no place for material that warrants a content advisory in the building blocks of early childhood education. The estate has correctly recognized that there is no public good served by continuing to publish them.

Good thing the decision was up to the Seuss estate, who absolutely know better than a random Canadian pundit about what's worthwhile for them to print.

Why are you so certain that their reasons are cynical?
