I don’t know if it is playing out the same way in the UK as in the US. In the US, the realignment of the parties seems to be driven by the dealignment of small capital (GOP) and big capital (Dems), with finance and labor increasingly divided.

small and medium capital was always the primary financial backer of the conservative movement, like the Kohlers, the Millikens etc. They had particularly bitter struggles with organized labor.

Yeah. My (Thomas Ferguson-informed) understanding is that this has been the split since the New Deal, albeit with the Dems' share of support from big capital ebbing and flowing. But the GOP's gains with working-class voters are real, just not as massive as the Tories'

my question is how many of those voters are working class and how many of them actually own their tools/small businesses, and find the regulatory/civil rights state to be an imposition
