this doesn't surprise me. Discourse around bisexuality has changed dramatically in a way that encourages people who in previous generations might have thought it was a phase to embrace the label as a permanent identity

eg I know a number of people who had either intense one-off crushes or went on a couple of dates with same gendered individuals and who have embraced bisexuality as a label. In previous decades I think that would have been considered a "phase" I think this is a positive change.

No, I believe the rates were always the same, people just didn't admit to it. We are now a majority libertarian society on that issue: "Do as you please, as long as it's adult and consensual. Your business is not my business when it's behind closed doors."
