What Bozell's biography makes clear is that a lot of Tradcath stuff is just LARPing. Pretending you can revive the Middle Ages. Which is okay, unless you go the full Don Quixote & actually attack a wind mill (or an abortion clinic, as the case maybe).

He was ... not wrong about that. I grew up in that liberal Catholic environment, and—naiveté of youth—entirely missed the power of European reaction to intervene and support a reversal of the tentative liberalization of the North American Church.

To refer to the mini-counterrevolution in the North American Church 1970-90 as “larking” betrays a lack of historical discernment. The biggest single mistake US historians of my generation made *overall* was to underestimate the importance of religion as an historical force.
