Do you think Nixon would be a good governor? I mean isn't experience important? (This sounds hostile but I don't mean it that way?)

How is "experience" working out for you?https://twitter.com/jaketapper/status/1362194324981755904 …

I asked a serious question you ignored it and then come back two years later with this. For the record I can't stand Cuomo. But this is just a not really responsive.

If Cuomo's big selling point is experience but it turns out he can't govern in an emergency, then his big selling point isn't valid. That's meant as a serious point, not a gotcha.

If you look back I didn't defend Cuomo, I asked if one should be concerned about Nixon's lack of experience. I was actually looking for ways to think about Nixon and you acted like it was a stupid question. And there is more to Cuomo than this experience, which is bad.

Seriously, I am a nobody and you come back two years later to attack me (you comment and post was snide) about a man I didn't then, or now, like. You still have not answered whether Nixon would be a good administrator, except to say Cuomo is bad. You are a weird, mean man.

I'm sorry if my response seems snide -- I just find the whole experience argument very irritating because it presumes there is a special class of people who know how to govern. That always strikes me as anti-democratic. We need people of all sorts in public life.

Your comment would have more power if I had been an enthusiastic Cuomo supporter or someone who said Nixon had no right to run. If you look back I wanted to have a serious discussion about the issue of experience. How should we think about it, how much weight does it deserve.

My argument is that talk of experience is just a way for the in-party to set up a barrier to outsiders. Politics is already far too much a cartel with dynasties (ahem Cuomo) and entrenched patronage networks. This cartel doesn't need another argument but should be challenged.

I don't see how one can look at the Trump administration and come to the conclusion that experience in government doesn't matter.

Trump was bad because he had bad policies. Obama (who was also accused of being inexperienced)was good because of largely good policies. The experience thing is a distraction.

Obama was in government for over a decade. The actual experience of genuine neophytes - not just Trump but Schwarzenegger, Ventura - is not encouraging. Also Trump was not bad at being president *only* because he had bad policies. This is such a ludicrous argument.
