I’ve just listened to the @KnowYrEnemyPod about the 1776 report and am once again struck by how its account of Progressivism is head-spinningly alien from anything resembling history.

We have to dole out pure Marshall to the listeners at careful intervals. He is habit forming, and his effect on longterm health is as yet indeterminate.

I enjoyed the recent West Coast Straussian episode by the way, although I think it could have gone more into the weed more on West Coast/East Coast divide & Jaffa/Bloom split. The periodization of Strauss is key to this.

Look at the dates. Jaffa was born in 1918, Bloom in 1930. 12 year difference. Jaffa was Strauss' first American student (at New York U), Bloom a student of 1950s Chicago Strauss. The Strauss Bloom knew was a very different figure.

The Strauss Jaffa studied with was a WWII Strauss, very eager to promote a patriotic mythology & make peace with religion. The late 40s/1950s Strauss that Bloom knew threw more hints about his doubts about modernity, America, & religion.

WWII Strauss more given to emphasizing need for edifying patriotic stories to shore up endangered liberal democracy. 1950s U of C Strauss focused on creating educated elite that knew the esoteric truths. That's the birth of West/East divide. Also the homophobia divide.

Since listening, I've been thinking about how the Straussians are very similar to alchemists, as alchemy was a mystery one was elected or initiated into, not a path you could choose for yourself. Also, Straussianism and alchemy are both false.
