Who are the three novelists Nabokov praised who are still alive? (I'll answer below shortly but curious to see what people guess).

I had Barth. What did he say about White?
-
Blurbed Forgetting Elena as "a marvellous book."

I seem to recall Nabokov praised Pynchon for the humorous names of his characters, such as Dewey Gland.
-
Do you remember where? In any case, that seems like dubious praise.

Herbert Gold! He wrote a book in the 90s called "Bohemia: Where Art, Angst, and Strong Coffee Meet" that I liked...a lot about coffee and cafes. Also Serge Gainsbourg.
-
Yes, that's a good book.

2 Ohioans and a Marylander

Weirdly enough the non-novelist writer that Nabokov praised who is still alive is also an Ohioan (poet Richard Howard).
