One thing to consider is that few people would be republicans today if they read or watched accurate news. Republicans are Fox or OAN viewers almost by definition.

Agree: We're in a situation where one side rejects science, including biology and climate (physics), prefering to find reality in racial identity and a primitive brutal religion they have warped to their own ends.

Also worth noting that while it is national in influence, the NYT's reader base is still...New York City. (Admittedly the WSJ's also, but the, well, Wall Street portion of it).
