This is a good account of the institutional and intellectual infrastructure that creates "Korean women forced into prostitution were actually just employees" articles. Or, not too long ago, "only 500 Americans will die of Covid" articles.https://twitter.com/joshtpm/status/1358396357413904386 …

This shld really be seen in the context of the larger absurdity of much of the legal academy in which amateurs freelance in fields they have no expertise in under the imprimatur of elite university distinction. We might call it the Law and Economics Grandiosity Problem.

The real genius of "law and economics" is it brings together two disciplines notorious for epistemological arrogance to create a new synthesis of unbridled hubris. It's like mating Godzilla and King Kong.

The USA is about 2 weeks away from 500,000 official Covid deaths. Less than a year ago famous law prof Richard Epstein predicted in the neighborhood of 500 deaths.

But that was just a calculation error! He actually predicted 5000 deaths.

This shouldn't need to be said, but lawyers are not doctors, as amply illustrated by the Richard Epstein's self-administered lobotomy.

I think we need a more specific conversation about what's going on with Harvard. It's as if smart people created a place where the most vainglorious among them could go collectively insane

Also note that there’s no culture of pre-publication peer review in law reviews, and note that publication is overseen by third year law students.
