I will defend the al Franken resignation, made democrats not look like hypocrites. In hindsight we know of some reasons why Hill was very meh (seems she was an abusive boss) but that isn't why she was pressured to resign

I heard her say in an interview that she didn’t want it to continue to be a distraction from other congressional Democrats and their work in Congress as a whole. I believe she stated she was never pressured by leadership to resign.

My understanding is that Hill chose to resign to avoid what she believed would be a year-long drip drip drip of revenge porn targeted at her. She did so despite Democrats in leadership wanting her to stay.
