    1. The New York Times thinks Joe Biden is going too fast with the executive orders. The editorial is chiefly valuable as a distillation of the Times propensity for a myopic Mugwumpism.https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/27/opinion/biden-executive-orders.html …

        2. In late 19th century, the Times was a big advocate for the Mugwumps, an upper-middle class faction obsessed with civill service reform at the expense of everything else going on (Reconstruction, the KKK, mass unemployment & strikes, mass foreclosures). Times is still the same

        3. Being the Mugwump mooks that they are, the Times is fretting over executive orders as if there hadn't been a botched putsch earlier this month which explains why Biden needs to demonstrate his authority. More here:https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/biden-executive-order-times/ …

that Mugwumpism, and the sanctimony it is draped in, allows just the worst kind of mock profound "tut-tutting" to be elevated in the paper. "Oh, the house is on fire, is that the right brand fire extinguisher at hand?"

The piece avoids the questions the paper is afraid to address: are Trump’s EOs so appalling that they need to be reversed immediately, do The Biden EOs represent good policy, is legislating impossible because of minority rule in the Senate.

It's cool that they're coordinating talking points with FoxNews. Seriously, this is exactly what FoxNews was hammering at for a half hour yesterday. (I only notice the channel when I'm at the gym.)

If you read Obama’s memoir it’s very clear that for over 10 years the only party with an interest in governing is the Dems. Bipartisanship only works if you have a real partner. There is none. Dems should just get on with the program.

Maybe the best thing the NYT has done is endorse two of Biden’s rivals over him for prez. Seems to have engendered in him a deep contempt for their ed board which means he’s less inclined than Obama was to follow their bad advice.
