So I’ve been wanting to do this thread for a while and as usual, I’m hoping people who know more than me, academics especially, chime in. The question: when did “bipartisanship” become an important value in American politics?

Concur. Harry Truman and Arthur Vandenberg both wanted NATO, which meant the US being in a permanent binding alliance for the first time since the founding of the Republic. So to use the modern term, they deplatformed the "isolationists" (partly by labeling them that)

And executive branch oversight/control of nukes. Secty of States all sharing same ideological outlook (except for wanna-be star, Kissenger.) After fall of Soviet Union, GOP starts to pull away from "bipartisanship." If you lived through it, it was pretty obvious.
