But if they don't bar him from running again, it doesn't mean much if they're primaried or not, because they will likely lose anyway, either to a Democrat from the division of the right-wing vote, or even to Trump's party itself. Unless they follow Trump into his new party, ofc.

I feel like he should just run for Senate. He’d win any red state primary, wouldn’t ever have to work, would have a large enough platform people would have to listen to him, and gets to play Republican kingmaker for the foreseeable future

I can't imagine any scenario in which they get 17 Republicans to convict in the Senate, regardless of what Mitch does. The silver lining is that if he does try to run again, the fractures within the party will only grow, and there will almost certainly be a 3rd party on the right
