War doesn't look the same now. A series of terrorist acts spread out over months and years is still war.
Also, larger standing army, more infrastructure, greater reliance by states on federal resources, etc.
What is possible is a repeat of the Troubles in Ireland and Northern Ireland, but without any discernible political goals which can actually be agreed to by Blue America
No overriding issue comparable to slavery? *Members of Congress* apparently helped an armed insurrection breach the Capitol, that aimed to assassinate the VP, Speaker, and others, all due to white supremacy.
Doesn’t a war with no “front” just mean guerrilla warfare and endless terrorist actions? And the feds may have the bomb, but they’d never use it on their own populace.
If the Feds divide into factions, you’ve got your civil war right there. Imagine a General declares X to be legitimate President and a set of Governors agree. Now you’ve got a civil war and an insurgency within that state. If the election were closer (think 2000), it’s possible
