My father told me about an Optimists’ Club meeting in the late 50s. He said no one paid too much attention to the program until, at the end, the presenters said “Don’t you know communist recruitment when you hear it? Why didn’t you say something?”The presenters were FBI agents.
My father, who was far from right wing, told this story neutrally (thus approvingly by default) in the early 60s. By then we were on opposite sides regarding the war in Vietnam. I had an entirely different WTF reaction to the inappropriate involvement of government in politics.
