      1. One of the interesting tics in Obama's memoir is comparing other world leaders to Tammany Hall ward bosses, which he does with both Lula & Putin.pic.twitter.com/30zM97OubU

      2. The Tammany reference is interesting because Obama's own rise involved navigating through and making deals with one of the last of the old-time political machines, the Daley machine in Chicago.

          3. Obama portrays Tammany Hall style ward politics as a corrupt, tribal enterprise at odds with liberalism. But the contrary is true: Tammany helped organize marginal voters & teach them to make demands as citizens, paving way for New Deal. The machine was pretty much dead before Obama got to Chicago. The people he worked with as an organizer would probably have been a lot better off if the machine was there to do deals with.

I prefer FDR and the New Dealers, who had a healthy appreciation of the good ward bosses did.

Why "interesting" (in the way you clearly mean it?) Wouldn't that fact that he bore witness to the Chi political paradigm suggest he's able to identify those system actors? Or are you accusing him of machine politics corruption? If so please elaborate rather than just insinuate.

So much of the Democratic schtick is doing the exact same things as everyone else, just packaging it in a way that more civilized and less obvious. The end is the same, just it's a kinder, gentler, more competent, perhaps more "legal", form of corruption.

The issue that I see is that Obama has an ideological longing for post political technocratic rule- where all the “correct “ people are in agreement and then execute policy efficiently. It’s a different flavor of classical conservatism, and it elides

the question of current systemic oppression, and the historical reality that political monoculture creates oppressive systems. He not only wants all violence to be state controlled, he wants all political power to be state controlled.
