They’re not poor anymore tho
I see mostly soft white boys from out on the Island, scared and disoriented enough to be dangerous. Also a whole bunch of Hispanics and blacks, both men and women, from a larger variety of backgrounds and harder to sort. Hardly poor. They start at 45K and get 85K in 5 years.
Far more relevant to examine ch. 2 of "Set The Night On Fire: LA In The Sixties" which covers LAPD Chief Parker, who started with LAPD in 1927 (which includes Chandler's era) ending service in 1966 (Interesting to learn that his driver- who kept his dark secrets was Daryl Gates)pic.twitter.com/so7sSpOlSc

Definitely not poor, living the socialist dream, making over $100K w/bogus overtime, retire in their 40s with $100K+ pensions, full free medical care.
He nailed it. I know.
Thanks, Jeet.
