I think it's reasonable to hold the leadership of a party, especially when they had a war chest of billions, responsible for election disappoints -- more reasonable certainly then to blame activists outside the party.

So it's the media's fault? I honestly don't think this hunt for scapegoats, motivated by a desire to exculpate party leaders, is healthy. In life it's a good rule to look at the things you have control over and can change rather than blame others.

We should all change! But Democratic party leaders, having more power, have more responsibility to change. I just don't understand the impulse to let them off the hook.

I think that passage is still good! The point I was making was that even in political defeat Trump would retain cultural power and the ability to do harm -- something we're seeing right now. Trumpism isn't going away.
