Was it the musical that portrayed Hamilton as an abolitionist? It’s been years since I’ve read Chernow’s biography but I am not anywhere of anyone calling him an “abolitionist”. He was simply not so bad as most other founders when it came to slavery.

What’s most striking/interesting to me is how the story of each as an “abolitionist” came to be told to begin with, by whom, on what evidence (or paucity thereof?), and what interest (however witting or unwitting) it served
