      I have to say that having started a proto-substack, being trained in history and now owning a unionized company, I'm curious whether @ModeledBehavior has any evidence for this is the digital media sector? "Econ lit" on this has a dubious record.

      2/ There is a certain intuitive logic to it. But I think it's also a case where when you're actually involved in this stuff you learn that there are lots of cross cutting or countervailing factors that make it largely false, or at least highly debatable.

      That's a great point. It's why, say, the Haberman-NY Times alliance is so mutually beneficial (in a unionized job!). Paper can let her maximize her amazing productivity.

          Correct. And there's very little in current digital media unionization that puts any real brakes on star systems in which the players make massive salaries that dwarf those of other employees. If it did, there might be more to this theory in this case.
