Who’s talking about gagging? People should say what they want. I’m just saying they should stop pretending it didn’t cost Democrats votes around the country.

Can you point to the evidence for this claim? Any evidence? At all?

Everyone asks for “evidence,” then when that evidence is provided - like focus-group results, and the fact that GOP candidates spent heavily on ads tying their opponents to the slogan - everyone says, “That doesn’t count.”

I guess you can argue that GOP candidates who win in swing districts had no idea what message would resonate with voters, but that seems a little improbable.

In 2018, we were told Dems in these swing districts won because they were moderate. In 2020, they were still moderate - but lost.

Yes, and what changed between 2018 and 2020 to make it harder for moderate Dems to win? Just look at GOP ads - socialism and defunding the police.

So the MS-13 and very scary caravans and socialism stuff didn't work in 2018 but did in November? I remember when McCain was labeling Obama socialist and a scary black dude palling around with terrorists. Yet he still won. Why?

Because those charges were false. That high-profile Dems advocated defunding the police was true.

That's only true if you accept GOP messaging about who counts as high profile Dems. It was an absurd lie and Dems were too incompetent to refute.

You don't think AOC has a high profile? "High profile" isn't synonymous with "highly influential". Moderates don't know who exactly has sway in policy, but they see who gets media attention. AOC/Omar/Cori Bush and their signaling do damage.

This is basically a confession that you are so incompetent at getting your message across that you need other people to shut up. Unfortunately, in a democracy you don't get control what others say.
