It's true, Biden's "We must defund the police" slogan was a serious tactical error, I don't know what he was thinking embracing this sloganhttps://twitter.com/JamesSurowiecki/status/1334140495585546241 …

Was thinking more AOC and Ilhan Omar, as well as a wide range of liberal organizations, all of whom made sure Democrats generally were widely associated in the public mind with the slogan "defund the police."

Did AOC and Omar run on "defund the police"? Also there are literally thousands of liberal organizations in USA. Is it possible to gag all of them so they won't say "defund the police"?

Who’s talking about gagging? People should say what they want. I’m just saying they should stop pretending it didn’t cost Democrats votes around the country.

OK, but again, the question is IF it cost Dems votes, WHY did it? Did it cost votes because it got said, or because the Democratic Party, three decades after Rush Limbaugh first went on the air, still doesn't know how to take on the right-wing media? And who's fault is that?

It cost votes because no amount of clever marketing can make up for being the party that has high-profile members advocating wildly unpopular positions.

At end of day, Dem leaders are Biden, Pelosi, Schumer, Clymer and Hoyer. If public thinks party is too radical, then that's a massive failure of messaging on Dem's part.
