His playing, singing, songwriting, choice of cover songs are top notch on that album, though. (With the exception of the godawful “Thorn Tree in the Garden.”) One of the best concept albums/rock operas in rock history.

I agree. My go to example is Alfred Hitchcock, in my opinion the second greatest and most influential director in the history of cinema.....and an absolute TRASHBAG of a human being.

The thing is, Clapton's politics make all the sense in the world when you realize that his biggest fans were people who really were not that into the whole 60's thing in the first place.
