1. Cancel culture has gone too far! The middle-of-the-road extremists at The Altantic are urging parents to not show kids Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer as it is too "bleak" https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/12/rankin-bass-rudolph-the-red-nosed-reindeer/616932/ …

The greater Rankin Bass universe was about how the contemporary cultural/policy debate settled on the Neoliberal consensus.https://mobile.twitter.com/mattecannata/status/1079986468968382464 …

What idiot thinks it's okaying bullying? At the end everyone who tried to tell Rudolph was weird was wrong. Why are fighting over a cartoon?

The irony is the only reason the misfit toys were deemed valuable to society (instead of being forgotten after their sad, lovely song) was down to the outcry of the broad general public who wrote in letters (the last scene w/the toys and Santa only appeared the following year).

It celebrates nothing of the kind. The other reindeer only accept him when he does something important to them. Purely transactional. Otherwise he’d still be getting bullied. Ive always detested that song.

That fellowship takes a whole lot more pain & effort to achieve than the one everyone else gets handed to them—the one the outsiders are still expected to try to be accepted by.

I remember a movie short from either SNL or Fridays in the 1980s that depicted Rudolph as a murderous gangster seeking revenge on all those who bullied him. Quite bloody and funny, but it revealed the dark underbelly of the story.

Agreed. I think her analysis of Foreman Elf's voice is off too. Carl Banas maintains the gruff "WHY WEREN'T YOU AT ELF PRACTICE?" tone when commanding the other elves, but switches to a nasally, more effeminate voice when addressing Santa. This is the more notable distinction imo
