Political parties exist to govern. The are some in the Democratic party who seem to prefer not governing but instead whining themselves into irrelevancy. Others love this country and want it well-governed.

Can "governing" exist in meaningful isolation from actual political positions?

The status quo isn’t neutral, it’s still an ideology

The question is what will put you in a position to govern. Twitter-crats were prepared to ride their ideology directly into the destruction of the United States. Fortunately the voters of South Carolina saved us. And look who won Georgia.

If you believe policy X is the best approach to reduce suffering (e.g. universal healthcare) what is the logic of working to elect people that explicitly denounce it

Because those people are the only ones who will protect you from the complete and total destruction of the country.

So your position is climate change isn't a real problem but some twitter people came close to destroying America. Sounds like you have a good grip on reality.

Climate change is a huge problem. That's why we need to kiss President-elect Bidens feet every day for beating Donald Trump. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren would have lost spectacularly and the US would have been destroyed.

Biden won because Trump is widely hated. Any of the other Democrats (including many candidates I don't like) would also have won.

Biden won because Trump never landed a single blow on him. And Biden won big enough to keep them from stealing the election.

All because Trump is hated. Never got closer to 50% approval. Biden's campaign was otherwise lazy and ineffectual, as can be seen by the poor downballot showing. People hated Trump but weren't convinced to vote Dem.
