And this is also true for non-Latinx people to some extent. I met two social conservatives at a Bernie rally in 2016. They had never voted Democratic. While they remained silent when Bernie talked about free choice, they started cheering when he discussed his economic proposals.

"Hispanic" is a broad category, diverse by race, class, and national origin. I think some people expected this group to vote for Dems with the same coherence as the smaller and more homogenous Black community.

African-Americans are not a monolith, but it makes sense to speak of the Black community while there isn't much sense of speaking of a single Hispanic community.
