A woman with a daughter with Downs once told me she hated the Rudolph story because here was someone who was born “different” and only became accepted after he was found to be useful.
That stuck with me but I also agree that it is about fellowship of outsiders.

Agree, that is a problem, although in context of story other misfits learn to love themsleves for who they are & not for social utility.

Absolutely! Also, The Wizard of Oz is about looking within yourself for happiness and not a celebration of xenophobic provincialism. If we could account for such misunderstandings, could we also deprogram Limbaugh listeners?
