This bad cold I have isn't being helped by me constantly screaming about how badly the House of Windsor treated Princess Diana. I'm going to have to rethink things.

In 1980, the House of Windsor tricked a naive, star-struck 19 year old into a fraudulent marriage. She thought her husband would love her. He (and the family) knew the marriage was for show & his heart would remain with his mistress. They destroyed that woman's life.

The House of Windsor pushed for a marriage based on 1) lies (his heart was with Camilla) 2) patriarchy & sexual double standard (they needed a virgin) 3) eugenics (she had the right "blood-lines). Truly monstrous people.

I haven't seen the Crown so I don't know if they cover this but even in 1981 the element of eugenics & sexism in the whole thing was striking. The emphasis on bloodlines & Diane needing to be a virgin (not a requirement of Charles).

Prince Andrew's infamous Epstein connection shouldn't be seen as a personal peccadillo but as extreme variant of a larger patten in a feudal family whereby women serve either breeders or sex toys. You see that in his father and brother as well.

They don’t put it as bluntly as in this tweet, but they do pitch it as the whole “duty” and “image” thing. But not bloodlines, no.

Even more related to the eugenics theme: there is a whole episode about Katherine and Nerissa Bowes-Lyon:https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/the-crown-season-4-fact-check-the-queens-secret-cousins …

Yes, there was hardly any talk of bloodlines in the Diana episodes, but that one hit the mark.
