This bad cold I have isn't being helped by me constantly screaming about how badly the House of Windsor treated Princess Diana. I'm going to have to rethink things.

The House of Windsor pushed for a marriage based on 1) lies (his heart was with Camilla) 2) patriarchy & sexual double standard (they needed a virgin) 3) eugenics (she had the right "blood-lines). Truly monstrous people.

I haven't seen the Crown so I don't know if they cover this but even in 1981 the element of eugenics & sexism in the whole thing was striking. The emphasis on bloodlines & Diane needing to be a virgin (not a requirement of Charles).

Prince Andrew's infamous Epstein connection shouldn't be seen as a personal peccadillo but as extreme variant of a larger patten in a feudal family whereby women serve either breeders or sex toys. You see that in his father and brother as well.

Was she naïve, though? Do we know that?
-
She was 19 and homeschooled. Of course she was naive.

I came away really loathing Charles after watching. Even more than Thatcher. They knew exactly what they were doing to her but just assumed she could be broken in. Broken, for sure.

I don’t feel that sympathy although I should. I feel like you knew the job was dour, buttoned-up and life would be like a bird in a cage, what made you think that would be fun?! Buuuut, she was 19 and joyful. How could she know?

What do you think the dynamics are between William and Harry and their father and grandmother?
-
Interesting you should mention Harry. His wife never stood a chance . . . .
