You can probably legitimately criticize this alleged deception. However Trump's foreign policy advisers are probably rightly cynical enough to believe that Trump is compromised in some way by Putin and maybe even Erdogan as well.

So Trump's foreign policy advisers would be well within their rights and in fact might even be morally obligated to circumvent Trump's authority. The biggest criticism of this deception is that we even have a president who needs to be deceived like this.
